Two teenagers charged with murder of 17-year-old in south-east London

Two people appeared in court today charged with the murder of a teenager.

Sylvester Akapalara, 17, died on the Pelican estate in Peckham, south-east London, on Wednesday. He had been shot in the head and chest.

Sodiq Adeojo, 18, of Peckham, and a 17-year-old male youth have been charged over the murder. Both appeared before Camberwell Green magistrates court in south London.

Akapalara was the 19th teenager to be killed in London last year. In online tributes to him fellow members of the Herne Hill Harriers athletics club remembered him as a "star in the making".
